Gifts of the Holy Spirit
There are 9
spiritual gifts, or gifts of the Holy Spirit. You must be born again, and
receive the Holy Spirit baptism to be eligible for these gifts. Keep in mind,
these are all supernatural gifts given by the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12-14)
Spiritual gifts can be split up into three categories...
1.) Gifts of Utterance
-Gift of Prophecy
-Gift of Tongues
-Gift of Interpretation of Tongues
2.) Gifts of Power
-Gift of Faith
-Working of Miracles
-Gifts of Healings
3.) Gifts of Revelation
-Word of Wisdom
-Word of Knowledge
-Discerning of Spirits
Now we will give a definition of each spiritual gift...
1.) Gift of Prophecy--A supernatural utterance in a known tongue or language. It
will always edify, exhort, and comfort those that hear. (1 Cor. 14:3)
2.) Gift of Tongues--Divers kinds of tongues is supernatural utterance by the
Holy Spirit in languages never learned by the speaker, not understood by the
mind of the speaker, nor necessarily always understood by the hearer.
3.) Gift of Interpretation of Tongues--The supernatural showing forth by the
Holy Spirit the meaning of an utterance in other tongues.
4.) Gift of Faith--A supernatural endowment by the Holy Spirit whereby that
which is uttered or desired by man, or spoken by God, shall eventually come to
pass. Don't get this gift confused with standard faith in God's Word that every
believer has, or should have.
5.) Working of Miracles--A miracle is a supernatural intervention in the
ordinary course of nature; a temporary suspension of the accustomed order
through the Spirit of God.
6.) Gifts of Healings--The purpose of the gifts of healings is to deliver the
sick and destroy the works of the devil in the human body.
7.) Word of Wisdom--A supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning
the divine purpose in the mind and will of God (future tense).
8.) Word of Knowledge--A supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit of certain
facts (past and/or present) in the mind of God.
9.) Discerning of Spirits--Supernatural insight into the spirit world.
The Word of God tells us as believers to follow after love, and desire spiritual
gifts ( 1 Cor. 14:1). The Holy Spirit gives the gifts as He wills, but you must
desire them first and not be ignorant of them (1 Cor. 12:1). The gifts you
receive are not for your benefit, but for you to minister to others in the love
of God! So go forth in the power of the Holy Spirit proclaiming Jesus Christ to
the world, and put your faith into action!
